Bear witness to the exhilarating sound of Step 13 as they unleash their explosive debut double A side single Flash Flood / Runaway. For those who’ve never heard Step 13, their sound gives a healthy nod towards the Drum and Bass scene whilst maintaining an energetic rock guitar vibe. Think Bloc party with more bass and soul.
Hailing from London Step 13 are a leftfield drum and bass band with oodles of character. MC Ishu was brought to the UK from Jamaica in the 80s by "phlegm fatale" Arri Up to record with her seminal punk band ‘The Slits’. Lucy Randell has recently performed backing vocals on the new Gorillaz album ‘Plastic Beach’ and has previously recorded and toured with ‘The Streets’. The 13 are proud to finally release their debut works and will be backing it with a string of festival appearances including Beach break live and Waveform festival plus more to be confirmed.
A side; Flash Flood takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, getting you going with sweet classical pianos, strings, hard hitting drum and bass licks and sublime vocals from Lucy before Ishu takes you up to higher heights with a heart in the mouth hook leading to a powerful, hairs standing on end finale.
AA; Runaway is another passion fuelled rise out. A short but sweet, intense, punch in the face of a tune that will leave you breathless and wondering what’s just hit you. You’ll be blown away by the enchanting vocals of Lucy and the exuberant ragamuffin musings of Ishu.
The next double A side, "Crowded room" / "Spoof Miester" will be out in mid August.
